You just described my friends. They were shocked to hear I spend time everyday learning what I can about all things covid. To them, they are vaxxed and that is all that matters. Their only goal is to avoid covid, but for the most part they don’t think about it. (By the way, I live in the insane state of WA where people love our governor who has had emergency powers for 900 days.)

Your friends in WA are my friends. A woman in my yoga class said recently she thought she had an asymptomatic case of covid while her 30 year old son had symptoms cuz she had four shots and he wasn’t eligible for the fourth.

Teacher Lori. You are not alone in the Evergrren state. Lots of others here too. We need to keep up the pressure. 👍

We stupid bumpkins in the north Idaho mountains must be lucky to be alive, having had a mask mandate for 4 months in the winter of 2020-2021, with so many exemptions that it was easier than a slalom run on the slopes. Did I mention all the masked tourists who came to frolic but who were upset that we weren't masking too?

But of COURSE they were! It's the blatant HYPOCRISY that really gets me PO'd!!!

Reading this last night, I thought of an analogy to hurricanes. When a hurricane leaves an area, life gets better only because a negative force has gone away, not because we've resolved the hurricane problem. We haven't resolved the lockdown problem.

Thank you for reprinting this! I read it yesterday on Twitter from the original author and I agree completely because I'm married to Joe Average. We have had some ugly fights, starting in summer 2020 when he called me a conspiracy theorist! (At the time I said that masks and plexiglass were theater, and that we were all being herded like cattle towards an un-proven and experimental vaccine. I said that Fauci and Birx were power hungry bureaucrats, not epidemiologists.) Thankfully we could argue about all this because we have been married a long time and we aren't going to split up. But I haven't been as forthright with friends and acquaintances. Perhaps gentle nudges if I'm close enough, or completely circumventing the subject if I'm not. I will definitely vote my opinion in November.

Masks WERE the pandemic.

I hear you. And I agree completely that no one should ever be forced to cover their face in order to appear in public or in school. Why does this even need to be said?? I volunteer in K and 1st at our local elementary school. Masks mandated until Dec 2021 when a judge overruled our (PA) governor's power to force masking of school children. The difference in the children once their masks were removed was remarkable. Masked, many of them didn't look me in the eye, they were quiet and docile. It was difficult to teach reading and writing since so many phonetic sounds are the same if your mouth is covered. Once the masks came off the children were lively and engaged. It is heartbreaking to know that so many people think masking children/students is ok.

I don’t know if it’s possible to get through to people that didn’t have a visceral hatred and distrust of NPIs like lockdowns and masks. For me California turned into an unbearable dystopia (so unbearable I had to move to Florida).

I feel as

Joe Average and Normie Nancy aren’t as insufferable as Branch Covidians, but I don’t know how to get through to them

EXACTLY! You always hit the mark! The lackadaisical people who don’t research nor think critically, are my nemesis! THINK, ask yourself DOES THIS MAKE SENSE!!! Stop listening to the talking heads who don’t have your best interest in mind

I enjoyed the read, but I do not think it is a numbers game. It is an action game, we non-lizard people need to take action to change the culture. The Average Joe went along because the Average Joe is a follower and will follow whoever has the lead.

Agreed - but I think Matt’s point is, because Joe Average is a follower, he needs to buying into the scientifically, morally/ethically, and legally right thing.

Joe doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. Or does, but doesn’t care.

Correct, but because there are so many here, as opposed to most other places, they keep me on my toes and ready for my conversations w/Average Joe.

So true. And “experts” must be gems accountable. Especially now that Ms scarf lady and Mr napoleon gain of function have admitted they “knew” the v didn’t really work. 🤬

I guess that's the one advantage to living in a psychotic city like San Francisco. Still a high percentage of Karens And Neils walking around outside w/masks despite there being no mandates. Keeps us here in the freedom community on our toes. I still have multiple discussions a week w/colleagues and people on the street about the scam & probably won't shut up about it until I'm dead (even if I move to Texas or Florida).

Karen and Neil are different from Joe.

Joe isn’t covidian. He’s complacent and goes along to get along. Doesn’t have true convictions either way.

We need to tie the current economic malaise back to the lockdowns. We need to continue maximizing fear, uncertainty, and doubt about the boosters. And we need to tie back all manner of strange health issues - sudden death, cancer recurrence, autoimmune issues - to the shots.

This is why the signs need to be removed. In many cases the restaurant/store is no longer requiring, but has been irresponsible (or lazy) and not removed them.

Our local post office removed cdc signage a few months ago. It's probably the last place with plexiglass.
