In his autobiography, Norman Schwarzkopf relates that in summer 1990, as Iraq was preparing to invade Kuwait, the U.S. military was doing a war game (Internal Look) of nearly that exact event happening. Schwarzkopf says intelligence bulletins "concerning Iraq were so similar to the game dispatches that the message center ended up having to stamp the fictional reports with a prominent disclaimer: 'Exercise Only.'"

That's always been my take - "[China] should have..." But do I misunderstand the significance? Why does it matter? It is very mild rebuke (right?) by a guy who was just along for the ride. The much larger issue is the role that China played in the US "pandemic response" i.e. do it like China - the lockdowns, the tracing, the mass testing - and if possible, do it harder! Or at least bemoan the fact that our "freedoms" prevented us from doing it the China way (next time?). The guy who turned out to be the principle driver in the Trump Whitehouse - long time NSA affiliations and long time affiliations with operatives in China - was the guy who brought in Birx to be the public facing Covid chief; and she was recommended by his Chinese national wife (formerly colleagues). I rehearse the account developed by the guy who probably has done most to investigate the Covid Chinese connection (policy wise, not bats and wet market stuff) - https://www.michaelpsenger.com/

“COVID death” avg age is higher than life expectancy, NY “death spike” inexplicable, non sensical interventions appear to be a test for acquiescence. Your theory holds water.

AZAR: "So we were alerted by some discussions that Dr. Redfield, the Director of the CDC, had with Chinese colleagues on January 3rd. It's since been known that there may have been cases in December, not that we were alerted in December”.

Not that we were paying attention in December! By that time, according to the CDC, 4-6 million Americans were Covid seropositive.: "Serologic testing of U.S. blood donations to identify SARS-CoV-2-reactive antibodies: December 2019-January 2020”. HOCKETT: Given the context, I interpret’s [sic] Trump’s “should have let us know” to simply be Trump agreeing with what Pompeo is saying about China, i.e., “[Yes, Mike. China] should have let us know.”

As documented in NUMEROUS Press Briefings, Remarks, other events -- in the public record -- in which Pres. Trump spoke throughout 2020 and until his January 2021 exit, Trump REPEATEDLY mentioned "China should have let us know" -- in that language or similar. It was (and still is) a running theme in Trump's brain that "China could have stopped covid if they had just let us know."

I've read a A LOT of transcripts from the Trump White House Archive* and, again, I can CONFIRM the loop running in Trump's obsessive brain that it's China's fault, they should have let us know, and they could have stopped it. I'm not going to do the searches and document right now (don't have time), but readers can do the searches and prove it for themselves, as they wish.

Bottom line: I have NO DOUBT whatsoever that Ms. Hockett's interpretation is 100% CORRECT. Trump was DEFINITELY saying "[China] should have let us know." Thank you, Ms. Jessica, for being sensible rather than a dramatist.

The Covid years coincided with my mother's multiple year hellish battle with dementia, until her death last year.

In March of 2020, we got her out of a nursing home 1-2 weeks before lockdowns. Everything was already crazy and stressful even apart from Covid. So if I did read/see any of this news conference, I honestly have no memory of it.

"Given the context, I interpret’s Trump’s “should have let us know” to simply be Trump agreeing with what Pompeo is saying about China, i.e., “[Yes, Mike. China] should have let us know.”

That is how I understood it reading it right now. That's how I would have understood it if I had read/watched it then.

There is no virus.

Maybe spend time proving contagion

People who follow agro-business will recall the rumours coming out of China in late September 2019 about a virus that was decimating pigs and other forms of livestock. Sent animal protein futures through the roof.
