My 90+ aunt was in a nursing home in Iowa during that time and went through the ‘precautions’ like being isolated from others, got covid anyway, other than having a cough that lingered did ok.

I don’t think I will ever understand how the supposedly intelligent and informed people who made the rules turned into lunatics. And I would not expect any of them to have learned a thing and so will make the same mistakes again.

I think it's a mistake to call it "mistakes."

I agree, calling this a simple ‘mistake’ is letting them off the hook. This virus was modifying by the Chinese lab, but it is still just one of ~200 other respiratory viruses. Viruses had always existed before and always will, so there should have been no changes at all. Exercise, nutrition, sunlight, emotional health from friendships with other people, all were known to have been far more effective than the destructive, ad-hoc policies that were invented out of sheer panic.

It was a sequence upload by Chinese scientists and there was never a causal link established between that sequence and a "novel" illness, new cause of death, or disease that added risk of severe illness or death to any group.

Not a mistake-done with deliberate intentions "for the greater good". Now i 100% understand how things like holocaust happen. It starts with "for the greater good" "for their protection"

"for our protection" and no one dares call it out for fear of not being part of the herd or losing their job.

Holocaust references are usually over-wrought, but not here. Fear of disease was a powerful tool then, just like it was with covid.

I work in long term care and it is frightening how easily stuff gets put in place with no thought or common sense. IT's also frightening how many people will NOT say NO to stuff they KNOW isn't working! I am literally/actually the ONLY one in some of these facilities without a MASK. the employees aren't wearing them correctly for majority of time anyway but not ONE will stand up and just say no. This is how it starts.

Just one more in a long list of things I don’t understand: why people wear a mask on their neck, or halfway down their face. If they thought a mask worked, then they would wear it over their entire face. Don’t they realize they look stupid?

And my best guess as to why they do it is that they are, in fact stupid. That may sound cruel, but I don’t know what else it could be,

My twitter feed was filled with my outrage at what we were doing to residential care/long term care residents. Guess what- have a NH in that I consult with that is aback to masking all people ( I REFUSE and Not ONE WORD has been said to me), testing of all employees regardless of symptoms and communal dining shut down AGAIN for "outbreak". Bout lost my shit on hearing this my last visit. I've actually encouraged the employees to refuse to test-ask to see CORPORATE policy on this (there isn't one) and ask why an UNNECCESSARY medical exam is being performed without consent.

IT IS STILL GOING ON 5 EFFING YEARS LATER BECAUSE CDC HASN'T BOTHERED TO UPDATE SO CMS HASN'T EITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A new nursing home located within a half-mile of me opened 6 months ago. All the advertising for it I've seen features close-up photos of open-faced, expressive seniors. This probably is a deliberate attempt to convince prospective residents that they'd be moving into a decent place to live.
