Your adjacent suburb, Naperville, has been in the McMansion business for quite some time time. The ‘modern’ style looks so out of place, but it continues.
Andy Rooney circa 1975: "People seem more backyard than front porch oriented now. They're turning their backs on a world they used to face. . .. What used to go on the front porch is taking place out back now behind the fence around the patio."
Browsing through a book of Rooney's 60 Minutes pieces from back then--he's very good at talking about how people actually live. Chairs, attics, houses, restaurants, etc. In a way, it's akin to personal/lifestyle blogging raised to a very high level.
Admittedly I'm old but that old house is beautiful. The bones may be a problem but that skin is gorgeous.

Indeed.
